Owner Objective

Park7 Group, headquartered in New York City, is a developer of student housing across the United States, including a new 17-story, 587,133 gross square foot building in Pittsburgh’s Oakland neighborhood geared to serve the growing student population of the University of Pittsburgh. The 326 unit building, referred to as One on Centre, is on a 1.2-acre urban redevelopment site with topography challenges and significant utility relocations.

CEC Approach

CEC performed grading, layout, stormwater, utility design, and permitting services, in addition to survey, environmental, and landscape architecture services. CEC also completed a detailed design for the street-level hardscape adjacent to the public right-of-way, as well as the 7th story pool deck and amenity space for the building.

CEC’s landscape architects worked with the project design team to develop an amenity space that would serve as a multi-season asset to residents, as well as complement the adjacent indoor lounge area. Designed on the roof of the integral seven-story parking garage, the final design included a pool with a sun shelf and seating, spa, pergola, seating areas, lounge space, covered bar and kitchen, seat walls, fire pits, lighting, and a focal point water feature. The design maximized useable space by incorporating accessible ramps to the overall circulation pattern. The design also took advantage of multiple levels to create unique subspaces and provide views of the surrounding landscape. The project also includes the design of a water reuse system where roof runoff will be used for ground level and roof amenity space irrigation, which helped with stormwater permitting.

This project opened in August 2018.
