Celebrating National Intern Day

July 31, 2023
In celebration of National Intern Day, CEC offices nationwide came together to acknowledge the hard work and meaningful contributions their interns have provided this year.

In the Pittsburgh office, interns and employees enjoyed an outdoor ice cream social complete with a Bruster’s truck and cornhole matches. The Boston office followed suit with a DIY ice cream station, and Monroeville opted for an office-wide breakfast in recognition of the day. To include interns in annual events, Cincinnati celebrated by inviting interns to their summer picnic where they competed with the office’s volleyball team. As a special thank you, St. Louis gifted their Survey Intern with four tickets to an upcoming St. Louis Cardinal’s game in recognition of all his help this summer. Greenville office Civil Intern Garrison Counts enjoyed ice cream with his co-workers and reflected on his time so far with CEC.

Coming into my first internship this summer with only a year of schooling, I had no idea what to expect — and CEC blew me out of the water. They not only let me shadow the engineers in the office doing day-to-day work but would slow down and explain what they were doing before letting me try. Not only did I learn a ton this way, but I was able to do meaningful work as we did site designs for medical buildings, schools, homes, and more. I received experience doing survey work, design work, and interacting with local agencies. It truly has been a great way to start my career.”

-Garrison Counts

Overall, the day provided a valuable opportunity for full-time employees to recognize interns’ accomplishments this summer. Additionally, interns were able to talk with departments about their experience so far at CEC as well as network with leadership, resulting in enjoyable and memorable celebrations company-wide.
