Miranda Ware and Lyndon Hall had a unique opportunity to assist the WV Department of Natural Resources in data collection from a multi-year Black Bear study. The day Miranda and Lyndon volunteered was unique, as the DNR planned to pair an orphaned cub with a known sow (mother bear) and her cubs. The state bear biologist said that they have great success in placing orphaned cubs with sows, and this case would be no different. The DNR currently studies only about a dozen bears with radio collars to ensure a safe and healthy population of West Virginia’s state animal, the Black Bear.
