Just Published: Mike Shema, QEP, and Mark Haibach, PWS, Regarding Stream Flow Data at the Bailey Mine

August 8, 2019

CEC and CONSOL Energy, Inc. published a paper in Hydrology that synthesized over 15 years of stream flow data collected at the Bailey Mine in southwestern PA. CEC and CONSOL have been working together for nearly 20 years to classify, restore, and monitor streams that have potentially been affected by longwall mine subsidence. The published article presents a method to determine whether stream flows have been restored to a pre-mining condition and demonstrates that the majority of the streams overlying the longwall panels are either not affected or can be effectively restored using today’s stream flow restoration techniques.
