CEC Staff Educate Students on Evaluating Water Quality

April 15, 2021

CEC is assisting the Little Sewickley Creek Watershed Association (LSCWA) with evaluating the surface water quality in the Little Sewickley Creek Watershed just outside of Pittsburgh. This project recently offered an educational experience for a group of Quaker Valley High School students known as the QV Creekers.

CEC Pittsburgh and CEC Monroeville staff took the opportunity to educate the students on environmental and biological matters within the watershed. LSCWA and CEC brought three students along during a daylong sampling event. The students learned about CEC’s safety and sampling procedures and also gained valuable insight into the findings from CEC staff.

LSCWA’s mission is to protect and conserve the natural beauty and environmental health of Little Sewickley Creek and its watershed. This ongoing study is focused on gaining a better understanding of the existing base-flow water quality and the location of potential contaminant sources.
