Presented by Greg Werner
Leachate and other landfill-generated liquids (gas condensate and dewatering liquids) are generated over the entire landfill footprint. Due to the progression of landfill cell construction, the design of sideslope or gravity leachate collection systems may require locating the collection point a substantial distance from the centralized storage, treatment or discharge location. This often results in constructing a forcemain to pump the leachate and other landfill liquids long distances. In addition, different liquid sources exhibit different fluid characteristics that need to be considered in appropriate forcemain design. This session will explore the appropriate steps to consider in forcemain design and pump selection. Discussion topics will include: fluid properties, service conditions, forcemain material selection, pump performance conditions including TDH and NPSH, proper pump selection, in-line item selection, and controls and automation. A case study and practical application will be presented.
