Successful Waste Reclamation

The need to excavate MSW arises from time to time. Waste reclamation projects can cover a broad range of complexity and cost. Proper planning and preparation are critical to the success of this type of project. Several case histories will be discussed and keys to success identified.

Michael Yacyhysn, P.E.

Mr. Yacyshyn has 41 years of experience in geotechnical engineering, landfill design, consulting, and contracting. He serves as a Senior Principal Engineer in our Nashville, TN office. His experience covers a broad range of civil/infrastructure projects, including hazardous and non-hazardous waste landfills, earth dams, tunnels, retained earth structures, tanks, heavy foundations, and highways. He has gained broad experience in waste management issues over the last 25 years, and has extensive first-hand knowledge of regulatory and technical issues associated with landfill siting, permitting, design, construction and closure. Michael’s experience also includes all aspects of landfill design, including slope stability, settlement, gas control, and surface and groundwater control issues. Prior to Mr. Yacyshyn’s waste management involvement, he was a practicing geotechnical engineer and geotechnical specialty contractor in the western United States for more than 14 years. In addition to his waste management experience, he has designed numerous foundation systems for a wide variety of structures and analyzed existing and proposed slopes for a variety of facilities. He also worked for an international specialty geotechnical contractor who specializes in site improvement techniques for poor ground condition sites.
