Owner Objective
Industrial Scientific Corporation, a manufacturer of fixed and portable gas detecting and monitoring equipment, sought to build a new global headquarters building located along Bayer Road in Robinson Township, Allegheny County.
CEC Approach
CEC provided civil engineering, surveying, geotechnical, and ecological services for the construction of Industrial Scientific Corporation’s Global Headquarters building.
The project consisted of a 330,000-square-foot building, which includes an eight-story office tower, a two-story warehouse and manufacturing wing, lab space, and an eight-story open atrium. There is one level of underground parking beneath the building in addition to a three-story parking garage structure on site. Surface parking and structured parking provided is approximately 1,100 parking spaces. The project includes two access drives from Bayer Road, an internal loop road and sizeable loading dock, site circulation roads and sidewalks, retaining walls, and landscaped areas. The site stormwater infrastructure consists of two above-ground stormwater ponds, three below-ground stormwater detention tank systems, two bio-retention areas, and one bioswale.
CEC’s civil engineering services included working with IDC to develop site layout plans, grading plans and earthwork computations, comprehensive stormwater management design and water quality calculations, design of stormwater management facilities and water quality best management practices (BMPs), and utility design services. CEC obtained municipal site plan approvals from Robinson Township and sewage planning and tap approvals for the project.
