Owner Objective

The confidential client is one of the largest electric power holding companies in the U.S., supplying and delivering electricity to approximately 7.4 million customers. It has approximately 52,700 megawatts of electric generating capacity in the Carolinas, the Midwest, and Florida, and provides natural gas distribution services to more than 1.5 million customers in Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee, and the Carolinas.

CEC’s assistance was requested to augment its own staff and provide secondary analysis of engineering documents for the Water Redirect Programs at three of its generating stations. The Water Redirect Programs provide the changes necessary to standardize assets and operations to ensure compliance with NPDES Permits.

Construction and implementation of the Water Redirect Programs are on a fast track, and NPDES compliance throughout the construction and implementation stages is critical. Temporary construction dewatering chemical treatment systems, as well as SFC-area temporary pH adjustment skids, help to ensure compliance during these project stages.

CEC Approach

CEC coordinated selection and direct purchase of the skid modularized components to ensure quicker delivery and assembly.

CEC provided design sketches, illustrations, a bill of materials, supplier quotations, and site support services for the temporary construction dewatering chemical treatment systems during the implementation of the Water Redirect Programs at two of the generating stations.

CEC also provided supplier quotations for the temporary chemical feed modularized equipment skids needed for pH adjustment in the SFC areas of four generating stations.

All of the generating stations are confirming NPDES compliance throughout the construction and implementation of the Water Redirect Programs.
