CEC provides special inspections during construction, as well as complete field testing services to meet IBC Special Inspection requirements, Chapter 17, and the specifications or plan-driven testing and observation requirements.
CEC has served as special inspector on projects ranging from schools and office buildings, to industrial manufacturing facilities, to large commercial structures. Clients include architects, engineers, owners, and school districts.
Special Inspections
Special inspections during construction typically include observations and field testing for soils, foundations, concrete, steel, and masonry. They are project specific and should be outlined in the Statement of Special Inspections prepared by the architect or engineer included with the building permit application. Unlike contractor construction testing, special inspections are required by the IBC for the following:
Earthwork and Fill Operations- Confirmation of Foundation Bearing Grades
- Deep Foundation Installation
- Reinforced Concrete
- Post Tension Concrete
- Precast Concrete Erection
- Pre-stressed Concrete
- Inspection of Fabricators (Concrete and Steel)
- Structural Masonry
- Welding
- High Strength Bolting
- Steel Frame Inspection
- Sprayed Fire-Resistant Materials
- Exterior Insulation and Finish System (EIFS)
- Seismic Resistance
Certification and Training
CEC employs trained special inspectors who have been certified by organizations including ACI, NICET, AWS, ASNT, and ICC. CEC provides safety and loss prevention training to all of our technicians, and CEC special inspectors also receive OSHA 10-hour construction safety training and first aid training. Several technicians also have received confined space entry training.
