Civil & Environmental Consultants (CEC)’s terrestrial and wildlife ecologists are recognized for their botanical and wildlife expertise and are approved surveyors for federally- and state-listed plants and animals, such as northeastern bulrush, running buffalo clover, Mead’s milkweed, Indiana bats, gray bats, and northern long-eared bats.
CEC ecologists perform habitat assessments and flora and fauna surveys for environmental planning and impact studies, endangered species presence or absence surveys along with protection and enhancement plans, and baseline and post-restoration monitoring for ecosystem restoration and enhancement projects. Additionally, CEC monitors invasive plants, performs agronomic evaluations to restore fertility and vegetation to highly disturbed sites, and can design phytoremediation systems for treating contaminated soils.
CEC botanists perform rare plant surveys throughout the mid-Atlantic, southeast, mid-west, and southwest of the United States and have designed, permitted, constructed, and monitored rare plant relocation and mitigation projects. CEC botanists routinely perform invasive plant inventories on public and private lands and help design management programs to restore native vegetation.
From federal- and state-listed bats, such as the Indiana and gray bats, to bald eagles and gopher tortoises, wildlife biologists use their considerable knowledge of the natural history of wildlife species to assist clients in determining their presence or absence on a project site, measures to protect wildlife during project development, and methods to enhance habitats or mitigate for habitat impacts. CEC biologists have collectively conducted thousands of mist-net nights of trapping and acoustic monitoring for bats and performed surveys for a variety of wildlife species on hundreds of miles of utility line right-of-way and stream corridors.
CEC has restored thousands of acres of land disturbed by past industrial and surface mining activities. Agronomic evaluations are used to identify growth limitations in disturbed soils and residual material, so that appropriate amendments and plant species can be selected to restore vegetation to these landscapes.
