CEC Nashville Team Members Complete Urban Runoff 5K

August 24, 2021

A group from CEC Nashville recently participated in the Urban Runoff 5K at Shelby Bottoms Greenway and Nature Park in Nashville. CEC was a sponsor for the event, organized by Nashville’s Metro Water Services, the City of Gallatin, the Tennessee Department of Agriculture, Division of Forestry, the Tennessee Department of Environment & Conservation (TDEC), and the Tennessee Stormwater Association (TNSA).

The Urban Runoff 5K includes public education efforts, educational signage about water, runoff and pollution along the course. The event was following by a Water Quality Family Fest, which celebrates clean water and green infrastructure and includes activities for kids and hands-on education.

A portion of the proceeds from the race goes back to the community through a watershed quality award of $1,000. Local non-governmental organizations had the opportunity to submit proposals to be judged by the UR5K Planning Committee, which sought projects focused on Pollutant Runoff Reduction Implementation. Contest entries included any proposed project that involves the implementation/installation of best management practices that will improve runoff within a specific watershed, including rain gardens or other bio-retention basins, tree plantings, downspout disconnection, rain barrels, etc.

Participants from our Nashville office were: Glen Dodson, Christine Guy-Baker, Nick Kellenberger, Jeff Kissell, Bert Morton, Ricky Oakley, Emily Reed, Drew Stokes, Lindsay Wilson-Kokes, and Janette Wolf.
