What Fernando Has Been Up to as ASCE Toledo President

June 2, 2022

Fernando Camargo

Earlier this year, we announced Fernando Camargo’s, CEC Toledo‘s Civil Engineering practice lead, new role as the 2022 President of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Toledo section. Since this is ASCE Toledo’s 100th anniversary, the group has been busy planning different events throughout the year to commemorate the occasion. They recently held their first event of the year at Providence Metropark in Grand Rapids, Ohio. The event’s theme was the past of civil engineering in the region. According to Fernando, “the first event went really well.” There were about 70 attendees, including many children. “The weather was perfect, and it included a historical boat ride in the Miami and Erie Canal, a history lesson about the canal system in Ohio, and a tour of the Isaac Ludwig Mill which is still active,” said Fernando.

The next event, with the theme being the present, will be on July 28th at Glass City Metropark in downtown Toledo. CEC is a sponsor of the third event at Ohio Northern University on September 29 celebrating the future. ASCE Toledo’s centennial celebrations will be capped off with a gala event on November 3. The gala will combine the previous event themes and will celebrate the past, present, and future of civil engineering in Northwest Ohio. It will feature Dan Oblinger as a guest speaker, who is a former hostage negotiator and now is a consultant in “active listening.”
