As CEC continues to expand its solid waste services, the firm is pleased to welcome Brian Cole, P.E., as a Principal in the Charlotte office’s Waste Management practice.

Brian’s extensive background in landfill engineering, permitting, construction oversight, and environmental compliance strengthens CEC’s ability to provide innovative, client-focused solutions for solid waste projects ranging from facility development and expansion to closure and post-closure management.
Brian brings 34 years of experience in solid waste engineering, landfill design, coal combustion residuals (CCR) management, regulatory permitting, construction quality assurance, and environmental compliance. Throughout his career, he has successfully led multidisciplinary teams on complex landfill, surface impoundment, closure, and remediation projects across the United States.

His expertise spans the full project lifecycle—from planning, permitting, and design through construction oversight, regulatory coordination, and long-term operational support. Brian has served as engineer of record, CQA certifying engineer and project manager for numerous large-scale municipal solid waste (MSW) and CCR landfill projects, including multimillion-dollar liner and cap construction programs, leachate management systems, landfill gas systems, stormwater infrastructure, and closure activities. He has also designed mechanically stabilized earth (MSE) walls and vapor venting systems for several structures located near sources of explosive gas.

“Brian’s deep technical knowledge, strong client relationships, and decades of leadership in the solid waste industry make him an outstanding addition to our team,” said Todd Gingerich, CEC’s Charlotte Office Lead. “His experience will further enhance CEC’s ability to deliver innovative and practical solutions for our solid waste clients throughout the Southeast and across the country.”

Prior to joining CEC, Brian held senior leadership and engineering positions with several nationally recognized consulting firms and industry organizations. He is a licensed Professional Engineer in multiple states and is actively involved in industry leadership organizations, including the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC), where he has served as Kentucky Chair of the Solid Waste Subcommittee. He was the chief author of an Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) guidance document on placing solar panels on CCR closure caps and has presented numerous technical papers at various professional conferences. He also conducted comprehensive O&M training and coordinated the creation of a CCR programmatic document for a major utility.

Brian earned a Bachelor of Science degree in civil and environmental engineering from Vanderbilt University.

In his new role, Brian will work closely with CEC’s solid waste professionals to support clients with landfill development and expansion, permitting, engineering design, construction quality assurance, regulatory compliance, and strategic infrastructure planning.
