Ecology Team Leads Wildflower Walk

May 12, 2022

Kyle Filicky, Alex Geraci, Alex Colosimo, and Jared Walker, all ecologists from our Pittsburgh and Columbus operations, recently led 24 people on a spring wildflower walk. The walk took place along Bluebell Trail in Poland, Ohio and was sponsored by the nonprofit organization, Friends of the Poland Forest. The team identified over 35 species of plants and showed the identifying characteristics of each species, unusual attributes, associated folklore, medicinal uses, and special ecological properties. Participants even got to see a family of barred owls towards the end of the walk that showed up in the trees along the creek.

This is not Kyle’s first time working with Friends of the Poland Forest. Kyle has helped in understanding the Poland Municipal Forest’s composition and function. He has also led several field trips, presented lectures, and conducted aquatic animal survey demonstrations.
