Owner Objective

Cummins, a global leader in the power industry, has invested $80 million to construct a global distribution business headquarters for 400 employees on Alabama Street, between Market and Washington Streets, in Indianapolis, Indiana. The headquarters includes a nine-story office building, street-level retail, and a connected three-story parking garage. In addition, a roof garden and extensive public plaza will engage employees and visitors.

CEC Approach

CEC provided surveying and civil engineering services for the headquarters development and assisted with permitting and approvals throughout the design process, including obtaining Regional Center approval. CEC coordinated extensively with City of Indianapolis staff and local utility providers on the project design and approvals. An underground vault in the plaza area is utilized for stormwater detention and bio-swales to help improve water quality. CEC also coordinated with Land Collective on the public plaza area that includes decorative pavers, bridges, and high-quality planter beds, and also with the City of Indianapolis on a redevelopment of the Market Street streetscape design. During construction, CEC has assisted with construction surveying and civil engineering design and approvals.

The project opened in 2017 and was the winner of the 2017 Indianapolis Monumental Award.
