Owner Objective

LafargeHolcim is a large, international building materials provider and the leading cement producer in the United States. It also operates under the name Lafarge, Holcim, Aggregate Industries, and Lattimore Materials.

LafargeHolcim’s Paulding cement plant produces Portland cement and masonry materials. It has an annual capacity of 500,000 metric tons and supplies markets in the Midwest. The plant air pollution control systems produce a cement kiln dust (CKD) that LafargeHolcim disposes of on-site in a residual waste landfill regulated by the Ohio EPA. The landfill is situated within a portion of LafargeHolcim’s property that was quarried for limestone rock used to make cement, etc. It is a unique setting due to having a landfill in a quarry area.

CEC Approach

LafargeHolcim engages CEC for landfill groundwater sampling and reporting, engineering assistance, and surveying.

CEC completed groundwater sampling and reporting activities in a manner to prevent any deficiencies in the sampling events and not have any resampling or additional costs. Engineering and survey services included verification of landfill liner integrity, available constructed airspace surveys and calculations, and future airspace for construction planning.

Landfill permitting and surveying provided useful planning tools to the facility to plan future operations and budgets effectively.
